Inaugural Winter Theatre Forum to Illuminate the Grand Rapids Arts Scene

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Grand Rapids, Oct. 20, 2023 – The Winter Theatre Forum, set to make its debut from December 27 to 30, 2023, promises to be a memorable event for the Grand Rapids community. Hosted at the historic Wealthy Theatre, this four-day gathering is dedicated to celebrating the local performing arts and entertainment industry.

This inaugural forum brings together a vibrant community of local performers, directors, artists, and creative minds. It provides a platform for these artists to showcase their work and ideas, underscoring the richness of Grand Rapids' arts scene.

A Unique Initiative: The Winter Theatre Forum not only spotlights the local talent but also bridges the gap between the performing arts community and local decision-makers. This unique initiative encourages collaboration and serves as a platform for dialogue. As Grand Rapids currently lacks an arts council, it's more crucial than ever to provide a space where performing arts leaders and elected officials can engage with the creative community.

Forum Highlights:

- **Workshops:** A range of workshops, led by industry experts, are designed to hone skills, foster collaboration, and provide insights into various aspects of theatre for performers, directors, and educators.

- **Celebration of Local Theatre:** Thursday evening is dedicated to performances by local talent, offering a memorable night of artistic expression and entertainment. (Note: This event is 'pay what you can' for non-conference attendees).

- **Stephen Sondheim Tribute Revue:** Friday Night will feature a spectacular showcase of Sondheim's timeless classics, celebrating one of the giants in musical theatre.

Licensed by special arrangement with Musical Theatre International with the permission of The Estate of Stephen Sondheim.

- **Saturday Live Band Karaoke** Our grand finale will be live band karaoke with best loved musical theatre songs. Silent Auction and ticket proceeds to support a local theatre venue we lost during the pandemic.

The Winter Theatre Forum is dedicated to supporting local talent, inspiring creativity, and promoting the performing arts within our community. By providing an inclusive environment and fostering relationships among artists, theatre leaders, and officials, we aim to build a brighter future for the arts in Grand Rapids.

In its inaugural year, the Winter Theatre Forum seeks to fill a critical void left by the absence of an arts council. Our mission is to amplify the voices of the performing arts community and establish a platform for creative exchange and support.
