NOTE: We seek to be intentionally inclusive of gender-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary folx and ask all actors to list on the audition form the roles they most identify with.
Right now, our focus is on putting everything into this pilot. But if it hits the way we hope it does, we’ll be looking to do a full season with as much of the original cast as possible.

PRODUCTION TEAM:
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER/DIRECTOR: Elizabeth Barry, The CarpenBarry Company, LLC
CINEMATOGRAPHER: Seamus Hyman, Excursion Studios LLC
HEAD WRITER: Kevin McCasland
PILOT STORY: Set in a small town where the local Community Theatre prepares to meet the documentary crew who is recording the upcoming production of their Spring Musical. When the cast learns that the show is not strictly allowed, the motley crew has to pivot to something a little more within their means. The cast is full of everyone you'd expect to see in a small town theatre troupe. Divas, horny theatre kids, inept leadership, and so much love for the community it makes it difficult to dislike anyone.
CASTING: All actors age 20s-60s; all ethnicities; able-bodied and disabled people are encouraged to audition.
NOTE: We seek to be as inclusive as possible and ask gender-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to list on the audition form the roles they most identify with. We are seeking all races and ethnicities for all roles.
CHARACTERS DESCRIPTIONS:
Frank (Lead): A highly intelligent (but not always wise) English professor tasked with directing the upcoming community theatre’s Phantom of the Opera production. Cares for his daughter Cara, but is rarely eager to show much of any emotion beyond sarcasm or frustration.
Age Range: 40+, Masculine-presenting
Cara (Lead): A classic girl-next-door type. It’s almost impossible not to be her friend as she constantly radiates joy, passion, and humility. Although talented onstage, it’s what she does offstage that makes her such an asset to any show. She and Olivia are lifelong friends.
Age Range: 20s-30s, Feminine-presenting (Singing required)
Ava (Supporting): Starving for the spotlight and willing to do anything to get it. As unsubtle as they come, her short-lived time in the professional scene has inflated her ego and shows no signs of deflating anytime soon.
Age Range: 30+, Feminine-presenting (Singing required)
Ryan (Supporting): Lacking in confidence, but not in talent, he is a timid, innocent young man who is relatively new to the theatre scene. He finds immediate success though as his first audition leads to a lead role. His shy, humble nature indicates someone who isn’t ready for the stage, but given the proper guidance, he could be something special.
Age Range: 20s, Masculine-presenting (Singing required) (Must be comfortable with potential scenes involving intimacy)
Olivia (Supporting): An explosion of positive vibes and theatre kid energy, she gets the biggest roles and nobody’s ever surprised. She is fiercely determined to succeed but is also quick to grow attached to others, often in a romantic way. A friend of Cara’s since childhood.
Age Range: 20s-30s, Feminine-presenting (Singing required) (Must be comfortable with potential scenes involving intimacy)
Charlotte (Supporting): A dry wit mixed with a bad night’s sleep, she’s looking for something to occupy her time besides her university work. Although she has a limited history with theatre, she’s always had an interest. She’s got more spirit than it would seem, but she would need proper motivation to let it out.
Age Range: 30s+, Feminine-presenting (Singing required) (Must be comfortable with potential scenes involving intimacy
Miles (Supporting): A low-energy caffeine addict who is looking for something more than what his coffee shop job has to offer. Dropped out of college and has been looking for purpose ever since. Wouldn’t mind a girlfriend either, but beggars can’t be choosers. Long-time friend of Sage’s.
Age Range: 20s-30s, Masculine-presenting (Singing required) (Must be comfortable with potential scenes involving intimacy)
Sage (Supporting): A very “Go with the flow” type of person, but also gets easily over-stressed and anxious. Former stage crewmember turned actor. Close friends with Miles, but seeks close connections with new people.
Age Range: 20s-30s, Non-gender specific, (Singing required) (Must be comfortable with potential scenes involving intimacy)
Ron (Supporting): An actor of several decades, yet acts more like the loud dad who is always having fun, even if nobody else is. Wears his heart on his sleeve, for better and for worse. Long-time friend of Frank’s since back in their college days, but their relationship isn’t like it was back then.
Age Range: 40+, Masculine-presenting
Zoe (Supporting): A bundle of nerves and meek politeness. She’s incredibly responsible and productive but has no idea how to relax. She is a people-pleaser and does her best to keep everyone around her happy, even if it slowly kills her.
Age Range: 20s, Feminine-presenting (Must be comfortable with potential scenes involving intimacy)
Bill (Supporting): A knowledgeable music director who has slowed down in all ways over recent years. He’s still capable, but as he’s aged, he’s begun feeling more comfortable speaking his mind to those around him, particularly when it comes to Frank.
Age Range: 40+, Masculine-presenting
Documentarian (Supporting): An aspiring filmmaker with years of schooling, but nothing yet to show for it. He’s eager to make a name for himself with the documentary, even if it requires some less-than-savory methods. Has a serious case of the “Can’t shut ups” as well, which often leads to issues with others.
Age Range: 20s-30s, Masculine-presenting
Greg (Day Player): Antagonistic coworker of Frank’s, eager to displease. If there’s an insulting way to phrase something, that’s how he’ll say it. His demeanor is that of a bitter, inconsiderate man who gets few pleasures out of life outside of casual insults and comparing his life to the less fortunate.
Age Range: 40+, Masculine-presenting
Sound Guy (Day Player): Man of few words. Commander of sound, the ultimate professional.
Age Range: 20s-30s, Non-gender specific
